1968 S2a Lightweight - 37FG46

After recently being recovered after several years of slumber in Italy, this Lightweight is undergoing a complete ground up nut-and-bolt restoration to our usual high standard and original specification.

37 FG 46 was part of the second contract of Lightweights ever built. Production began in November 1968 with this example leaving the factory in late December of that year. It is a suffix 'A' vehicle which means it is one of the rarer 2a Lightweights with the headlamps in the grille panel. 1 of approximately 1500 ever made.

Unlike most ex-military Land Rovers you will find, this one has managed to retain it's original engine and both axles. We are unsure if the gearbox is the original as it has no visible serial number. The gearbox is also missing the usual rebuild plaque from the bell housing had it been a replacment unit that had been overhauled. We might find out more when we overhaul it.

The bodywork will be taken back to bare metal, repaired as required and refinished in the Deep Bronze Green it would have originally left the factory in.

The original chassis has been shot blasted to bare metal and repaired as required. It will be painted, cavity waxed and undersealed to protect from the elements. A replacement bulkhead and vent panel will be fitted. All cappings and fittings will be freshly galvanised.

The original engine and driveline is to be fully overhaulled along with all steering and electrical components. Genuine, OEM and NOS components will be used wherever possible.

It will benefit from a brand new wiring loom, all new braking system and pipework, all new glass and seating as part of the rebuild process.

This vehicle, once completed, will be available to purchase for £32,995
